If you like playing Civilization or Risk, you’ll love this game!
For those of you who don’t want to take advantage of the lovely spring weather we’re having and play outdoors…today is your lucky day!! It is called Defender of the Crown and available as a free trial download on Legacy Games.
First of all, just gaze at this game’s graphics. The animations are so fluid when you battle your opponents or compete in a jousting competition and the artwork when you are doing everything else is rich. You will be impressed with the details that were placed into each sprite on the battle field, and be just as equally amazed with the map that displays each area that is yours for the taking, to the portraits of the soon-to-be defeated lords, etc.
Now for those of you who doubt a game that costs less than $20 could be any good at all…you have no idea how wrong you are. The audio that you hear while playing this game is orchestral, angelic, mystical, and simply awesome. Even while I lost SEVERAL times, I enjoyed just listening to the music and watching the battle scenes. It is amazing how accurate the sound effect of swords clashing in battle matches up with the amount of infantry that is attacking. Most games don’t even come close to this amount of realism.
For those of you out there who like to play strategy games such as Civilization on your computer or even the boardgame version of Risk, you will want to buy and play this game for hours on end. You are constantly having to plan ahead so that you won’t lose five minutes in the game…and YES I found this out the HARD way. Each time it is your turn you must analyze what units you should buy and add into your army, which area to attack, should you challenge a lord to a jousting competition to raise or lower your fame, and whether or not to attack another lord’s army. You can even collect cards for simply conquering different parts of the map as well as increase your income to spend at your leisure.
For Defender of the Crown I have to give it a 5/5 for breathtaking audio, gorgeous visuals, heart racing intensity, simple to use yet difficult to master game play, and great replay value. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have to get back to defeating yet another fool in a jousting competition and then humiliate him by crushing his army.
