Hi friends! We had a very exciting announcement at Legacy this week. Are you ready for it? Legacy’s first games for the Nintendo DS and Wii were launched - Pet Pals: Animal Doctor for Wii andZoo Vet: Endangered Animals for Nintendo DS. Each game was specifically designed to take full advantage of these unique consoles, and will be hitting all the big retail stores early next week. Alternatively, you can check them out and buy them straight from Legacy Games. Keep reading because I also had the opportunity to sit down with Ryan, the producer of Zoo Vet: Endangered Animals (Nintendo DS) and talk about his experience talk about his experience as producer extraordinaire. So you can find out a little more about each game or just jump straight to their game pages on Legacy Games by clicking the corresponding name of the game you want to see, Pet Pals: Animal Doctor (Wii) and Zoo Vet: Endangered Animals (Nintendo DS). Pet Pals: Animal Doctor (Wii) Zoo Vet: Endangered Animals (Nintendo DS) Remember just like Zoo Vet: Endangered Animals for the PC, a portion of the game's proceeds will be donated to the African Wildlife Foundation, the leading conservation organization that provided fascinating conservation information used in the game. Interview with Ryan, producer extraordinaire: Sofun: OK, so that was the hard part. What was your favorite part while working on Zoo Vet: Endangered Animals? Ryan: My number one goal for Zoo Vet: Endangered Animals was to make the vet game that was the most fun to play. I re-wrote all the dialog, streamlined the cases and made them more understandable, and added tons of micro-games for all the medical tools you use. I think it’s a new, fresh direction for our veterinarian series. Sofun: Did you learn any fun facts that you want to share? Ryan: Uhhh.. I learned that elephants have glands on their face and sometimes they get blocked up. It’s like a ginormous elephant pimple. If your elephant ever gets something like that, call a vet right away! Sofun: Will do! How does this game build on Zoo Vet and Zoo Vet: Endangered Animals for the PC ? Ryan: Zoo Vet: Endangered Animals is a blend of the two PC titles that I reworked and updated for the DS. I took the best cases from both games, re-wrote and reorganized the cases to make them more accessible to kids while keeping the real educational content front and center. Hopefully the result is a game that really is fun and educational. Sofun: Did you base any of the characters on actual people? Ryan: No. All characters are fictional. Any resemblance to actual people is a coincidence. Sofun: Which character is your favorite? Ryan: I like Keiko. She’s smart, but she also knows how to have fun. Sofun: This is your second vet game, what lessons do you take away that you will apply if you produce a third? Ryan: I think this series is only going to get better and better. Every new game builds on what we learned from the one before. Right now I’m working on Zoo Vet: Endangered Animals for the Wii. We’re trying to combine the best of the DS version with a real time 3D world (similar to my other game, Farm Vet) to have a deeper, richer, game experience while keeping the lighthearted tone of the DS version. Sofun: Can't wait for Zoo Vet: Endangered Animals for the Wii! Until next time. Have Fun! Sophia, aka Sofun
Now all animal lovers and aspiring animal doctors alike have the chance to assume the role of a veterinarian. You get to heal over 30 animals, including a Saint Bernard, a Shetland pony, rabbits, turtles, hamsters, clown fish, and many more familiar and exotic breeds. The healing is done using an assortment of realistic medical tools that, for the first time, are available via the Wii Remote, making it seem as if you are performing actual surgeries while you are holding the controller and Nunchuk in your hands. The game offers three different levels of play along with mini games, including puzzles and matching games, as well as a variety of interesting animal trivia. As the game progresses, you are rewarded with job promotions, awards, and new game features that give you the feeling of actually being a practicing vet.
In this new simulation game set in an urban zoo, you will quickly find out that being a zoo vet is an adventurous and exciting job as you do things like watch a baby flamingo take her first steps, amputate an orangutan’s finger and even stick your heads in a hippo’s mouth! The game includes 30 newly written medical cases contributed by veterinarians throughout the world, with two levels of difficulty. As you succeed in caring for the animals, the cases become increasingly difficult and will unlock more of the sophisticated medical tools you will need to progress through the levels to achieve the highest vet ranking. You can also play six different mini-game, on the office computer, where you get to interact with the animals in their natural habitats.
Sofun: This is your first time producing a Nintendo DS game. What challenges did you face?
Ryan: I think the most challenging part of making a DS game from a PC title was figuring out what to do without the cursor. It seems like such a small difference, cursor/no cursor – but it was really hard at first to wrap my brain around.
