Mystic Emporium Review

Nice magic-themed time management game. You prepare potions, which you sell to various spooks and specters. You also have to mix the potions by blending different ingredients. This would be neat for Halloween. Every few levels, there's a match 3 minigame (sponsored by an energy drink company, ugh). The only thing I didn't like was the music.

This reminded me of Miriel the Magical Merchant – great game.

Yosumin Review

It's very Japanese. The arcade music, the cutesy graphics, the overly complicated game play... Instead of playing regular match 3, you are making matches in rectangles, where each corner of the rectangle has the same shape. Original, definitely, but not really my thing. I can see how some people might really like it, though.

The developer is SquareEnix (Dragon Warrior, console games). I'm surprised they're making casual games. Anybody want to take bets that this will turn out like EA's casual game endeavors?

Fashion Finder: Secrets of Fashion NYC Edition Review

Typical hidden object game, but this one is sort of like a commercial for Caress body wash and Marie Claire magazine. Ho-humm. Very average, and not too exciting unless you really love the fashion theme.

Remember back in the 1980s when it started getting ridiculous with advertisements in movies? If you missed this trend, see ET, and you know what I mean. Well anyway, it looks like the same things is happening with games. I really hope this isn't a new trend.

Pahelika: Secret Legends Review

Great adventure game! The puzzles are mostly clever and enjoyable, and the story is intriguing. It's kind of like Myst. You get transported to different magical places, gather inventory items, and use them to advance. Some puzzles are straightforward, but others really force you to think. It includes hints, which is so helpful.

Definitely cool to see more quality adventure games. Echo: Secret of the Lost Cavern is another good one.

Righteous Kill 2: Revenge of the Poet Killer Review

It's a mystery hidden object game, and the sequel to the first Righteous Kill game. You play as a police officer in NYC, so you visit various buildings, and places like China Town, and complete different forensics tasks. The graphics are about average. I didn't like that the hints only give you an approximate location of objects, kind of like in Return to Ravenhearst. At least it's longer than the first game. Personally, I liked Women's Mystery Club better, but this is also a decent game.

In case you were wondering, this has nothing to do with the Al Pacino movie. The similarities are loose at best.

Governor of Poker Review

This is a wild west themed, Texas Hold'em poker game. You're gambling for properties in an old west town, like a saloon, shop, horse stable, etc. It sort of reminds me of monopoly, because of the property building and real estate angles. I love the voice overs and music and sound effects. It's a lot of fun if you like card games and board games.

I'm going to add this to my list of favorite card games, along with Lottso deluxe, Fairway solitaire, and saints and sinners bingo.

American Girl: Kit A Treehouse of My Own Review

This game is based off of the American Girl doll series, featuring Kit, a young girl from 1934. There was also a movie about this character. The game is freestanding and not connected to either, though, so you don't need to be familiar with the story to play. It is essentially a collection of minigames, like a cooking game, catching falling laundry, a word game, a game about catching chickens...basically, a game about household chores in a rural area in the 1930s. Cute, but limited story.

The book is about a young girl whose family loses all their money during the Great Depression. The game never touches those issues, and just focuses on simple casual minigames. If you're expecting something like the book series, you won't find it in the game.

The Mysterious City: Golden Prague Review

This is an average hidden object game. The minigames are kind of interesting, and I found looking for items with a flashlight to be challenging. Otherwise, it's a bit slow. There are also some translation issues, but nothing major.

I missed this HOG. It was out a little while back.

This Week At Legacy...

HERE'S WHAT'S WORKING FOR ME ...

1. Yard Sale Hidden Treasures: Lucky Junction. Jackpot! Home decorating AND hidden object game play – could this be any cooler? You go around scouting yard sales for funky items, hidden object style, and then use them to decorate rooms in a variety if different themes. You do all kinds of home repairs, like varnishing the floors, painting walls, etc. The decorating minigames are the best part of this whole game.

2. Dream Chronicles: The Chosen Child. The whole Dream Chronicles series is like fantasy-themed eye candy. The protagonist, Faye, has lost her memory, and there are fairies trying to trick her at every turn. Seriously, the graphics and music are so gorgeous that you have to forgive the short length. It's a hidden object adventure game with great puzzles and immersive environments, although the hint system could stand some improving. If you haven't played the others, it's probably best to start with the first.

3. Youda Marina. Youda games are just so...well, odd. But, I mean that in a good way! This one is no different. You're building a marina, and have to help the ships to dock. The pace is frantic, and there's a learning curve, so expect to play a while before you get it. The originality earns it kudos, even if it's quirky.

... AND WHAT'S NOT

1. Enchanted Katya and the Mystery of the Lost Wizard. So....there's this wizard, and he's lost. He's in good company, because the tutorial is also lost, so it's kind of hard to figure out what's happening. It's a time management game about making potions, with short and easy hidden object interludes. Expect awkward English, and equally awkward controls.

2. Zeal. It's like Ugly Betty gone hidden object. You look at magazine layouts and pick out objects that don't belong. The incompetency of the staff makes you wonder how they ever get the magazine to print. The game itself is part hidden object, and part collection of mini games. The mini games are mostly variants of spot the difference. Really cute theme, but it's just too short and simple.

Beta testing of Legacy Games' new facebook "app"

Here at Legacy Games we have been toiling away at creating Game Share & Compare, the facebook version of Legacy Games. We have worked really hard to make this the best social casual game application and now we need your help to make sure we crossed all our Ts and dotted all our Is! We would like to know if any of our fantastic game loving members would like to beta test our new facebook application. If you are interested in being a part of something new and fun email me, Sofun@legacygames.com and I will send instructions next week. If you had previously sent an email in January when I first announced this, then you are already set to receive the instructions.

While we created Game Share & Compare we thought of lots of new features that we wanted to include and then the bright idea came that we should add those same features to Legacy Games. So now BIG CHANGES are happening on Legacy Games and guess what? They have already begun to take place, such as being able to select your “Game Status” for every game you want, have or are playing. This is just one of the many new features that will be rolling out. I don’t want to give it all away at once, but I’ll tell you this much. You will be able to link your facebook and Legacy Games profile and even add your games! Woops I probably should not have given out that much info. My lips are sealed now, you will just have to wait to find out what we come out with next, but I can assure you that it will be so much fun!
