Max and the Magic Marker is a neat physics-puzzler and platform action game that's
similar to Scribblenauts. You play as Max, a little
boy with a real problem. Max drew a purple blob monster, but unfortunately for
him, his magic marker is...magic. The monster is alive and causing havoc in his pictures, and
in order to beat the bad guy,
Max must chase him through 15 unique levels, with each location designed to be like
a child's drawings.
The game is set up like a giant
obstacle course, almost like Mario Bros. There are lava pits, hungry monsters, hills, and hard-to-reach platforms. Your mouse is the magic marker, which you use to draw anything you want.
Whatever you draw becomes a solid object. This is where the physics comes in to play. Everything follows the natural laws of physics. If you draw a bridge, Max can walk over it. If you drawn a large
circle, it will fall and roll like a giant rock.If your bridge isn't balanced...well, then Max falls!
In a challenging twist, you have limited ink in the marker, and must gather more by collecting orange ink balls. Every now and
then the big bad monster comes and steals your ink, too.
You swap between pausing the game to
draw structures that let you get through the game world, and running around platform
game style. The bad guys and there traps are everywhere, but it's not too tough (it gets challenging at points, but it's never impossible).
You can die if you make a mistake, but then you just start over again from the latest save
point.
Max features over 4 hours of
gaming entertainment, with some clever twists and very good music.Even though it
appears child-like, the complexity makes it a great game for adults.
